John Halstead
Associate

John has an MBA degree from the State University of N.Y. at Buffalo and worked in various financial and planning positions with the Carborundum Company before relocating to the mid-Atlantic area in 1988. From 1988 – 1993 John worked as an independent business consultant working with small companies focusing on growth planning, acquisitions, divestitures, and business valuation. John connected with Bernie Blickenstaff late in 1991 and served Superior Auto Paints as a consultant for 18 months prior to joining the organization as General Manager in early 1993.

As a consultant and as GM, John developed Superior’s organization and financial structure to facilitate growth and longevity. John was also involved in customer-based value-added programs and worked hands-on with collision facility owners and managers on a wide range of issues from shop evaluations, to pay plans, to management training. Ultimately, John assumed the role of Business Development Manager.

In 1994, John & Bernie worked with a focus group of customers about their concerns over the workforce. In 1996, this focus group became the core of the founders of CTAP – The Collision Technician Apprenticeship Program. John was elected its first President and remains so today.
